Sod is grass rooted in dirt that is produced in sections and is used by professional landscapers to create lawns. A sod lawn grows rapidly since it only needs a couple of weeks for the roots to take hold in the ground, but this also a more expensive method. You will need to work quickly as you lay down the sod because it will dry out if you don’t work fast enough. Once you have all the segments of sod installed make sure to water it two or three times a day but don’t over-water it or you can drown the roots. The next thing to do is to fertilize the sod without damaging the roots, so carefully apply the nutrients phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen with either chemical or organic fertilizer. It will take around two weeks for the sod to fully root and all that time you will have to keep people and pets from trodding on it. For on-going maintenance of the new sod lawn you should fertilize it once a month, and you can begin to mow it after about two weeks.
