Code of Ethics:
Several years ago, my oldest was a Boy Scout and was introduced to the hobby of
metal detecting. The gentleman who brought this wonderful hobby to life for my
son and twelve other boys also gave them a "Code of Ethics". Why would a bunch
of Boy Scouts need this, when they already have the Boys Scout oath? The same
reason all of us who have enjoyed this hobby do. Many Clubs and Societies have
their own set of Codes, below are the ones my son was given:
1. Observe all laws: national, state, and local.
2. Respect others rights and property.
3. Leave the land as you found it. Fill in your digs; take your trash and the
trash you found with you.
4. Leave all gates as you found them.
5. Report all discoveries of items that are of significant historical value to a
local official, historian, or museum.
6. Do not destroy any property, buildings, or abandoned structures.
The last thing to remember is to have fun. |
